The issue that God dealt with in sending Christ into the world was the problem of human sin. Sin is quite simply offending your Creator. When God created mankind He did so for His pleasure and glory. Mankind, however, failed to live up to the purpose for which we were created. We decided of our will that we would rather do what pleases us than what pleases God our Creator. This “self-will” is the essence of sin.
Our hearts tell us what the Bible confirms, we are all sinners (Romans 3:23). The message Jesus consistently proclaimed was a call to repent (Mark 1:15). Repent means to let go of that “self-will” that leads you to offend God and accept God’s will. A life changed so that your heart’s desire is to live for His pleasure and glory.
When you are convinced of your sinfulness and your need of God’s forgiveness, that is God the Holy Spirit calling you to repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord which means you live for Him, as you were created to do. Your response to this calling takes place in your heart which leads to a change of your mind which leads to a change of your life. The Bible says you are a “new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Jesus said you must be “born again” (John 3:3) Obedience to God’s Word follows in baptism and fellowship with other believers in His church.
